Hog farm gets delay in proposed annexation

Hog farmer Bob Combs will continue to call Clark County home -- for now.

North Las Vegas was considering annexing 520 acres of land, including 170 acres owned by the Combs family, where they raise about 6,000 hogs. But Wednesday city staff, at Mayor Michael Montandon's request, withdrew the item from the City Council's agenda for consideration

Montandon, who met with Combs earlier Wednesday, aid the family will work with the city on the annexation process but only if there is a chance R.C. Farms can work out a deal with the developer who is proposing an upscale retirement community for the area.

"There is not a chance they are going to work out a deal in 12 months," Montandon said, referring to his conversation with Combs.

The mayor said earlier that the annexation would depend on Combs because his parcel is large enough to swing a vote by area property owners.
