Venetian says thousands have applied for jobs

The employment center opened in December.

"We've been booked solid for interviews ever since we've opened," said Dave Newton, vice president of human resources for the Venetian. "We've hired additional interviewers just to keep up with the influx of applicants."

Even though Venetian developer Sheldon Adelson refused to open the Strip resort as a union hotel, that hasn't seemed to make a difference in the number of applicants.

The resort plans to hire more than 4,000 employees.

Company officials said they are offering a wage and benefit package that matches or exceeds contracts negotiated by the Culinary Union, which represents about 40,000 casino workers.

The Venetian is also offering employees a free health club and wellness center, on-site childcare and a free employee concierge with such services as dry cleaning, faxing and package mailing.

The 3,000-suite megaresort is scheduled to open in April.
