Letter: Children's home article brings out concerns

I have followed this issue since the actions of the last Legislature and couldn't agree with you more.

As the mother of four and grandmother of eight I have been greatly concerned with the way society has handled the care and welfare of not only orphans and adoptable children, but the many, many abused and neglected that the welfare system has fostered into society.

I have personally witnessed the abuse, waste of taxpayers' money and lack of continuity in both the administration of adoptions and outright noncompliance or concern about conditions and monitoring of foster homes -- especially prevalent in the more rural areas.

I'm not inferring that all foster parents enter the program for their monetary gain but unfortunately, this is the case in many instances.

I definitely agree that it is time to re-establish state-run homes and give these kids a stable life -- only then will I feel that my tax dollar and society's needs are being met.

I intend to write my legislator and Gov. Kenny Guinn and express my feelings.
