Brief: Mirage chairman wins art accolade

The prestigious publication noted that Wynn has spent more than $300 million of his own and company funds to acquire the "extraordinary" collection displayed at The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art.

"There is something splendidly egalitarian in bringing art to the middle-class population of America that arrives in Las Vegas, often from towns which do not have an art gallery," Apollo said.

Suggesting Wynn's example could spur other wealthy people to focus on creating major collections of art, the magazine said, "He has demonstrated excellent taste, courage, decisiveness, a willingness to spend what it takes and an ability to recognize his mistakes. As one of a new breed of collectors, we wish him well."
