Letter: Housing should be in states' domain

Both the physical condition of the buildings and the tenant conduct has decayed under the federal bureaucracy. Billions of tax dollars have been wasted and thousands of individuals have been held in servitude to the bureaucrats.

Every building requires police, fire and community services from the local government. These services together with social and economic aid can be better provided by nearby political units than by distant bureaucrats.

The federal government should eliminate its expenditures for housing assistance and return that responsibility to the states. Housing is a local concern which the Constitution properly reserves to the states.
