Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run

Three people fled the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident Tuesday, including the driver of the car and two people who are believed to have been with the pedestrian.

Metro Police investigators said the fatality happened shortly before 9 p.m. when the victim and two other pedestrians crossed Maryland Parkway at the intersection of Sahara Avenue against a red light.

Police said the three people stopped at the center median, but then one of them ran into the street and was struck by a white sports utility type vehicle.

The two companions of the victim immediately ran from the scene, and the driver of the vehicle didn't stop, continuing south on Maryland Parkway.

The name, age and address of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, were not released.

Police asked anyone with information about the accident to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or call the Accident Investigations Section at 229-3535.
