Letter: 1999's own 'bug' is the 1-cent stamp

For want of a penny, long lines of loyal Americans form to purchase supplies of one pesky item: the year 1999's required additional 1-cent stamp imposed illogically just past the busiest season of the year and plunging into a dreaded flu epidemic now clogging doctors' offices and emergency rooms.

One can conclude the U.S. Postal Service won't survive the Y2K problem. Also, "Through rain or snow or dark of night ... ," is apparently not the fervent pledge of today's motorized fleet of stamp vendors (hopefully) daily restocking vending machines in Postal Service foyers.

"Sold out" is frequently read on the lone box for 1-cent stamps. No box displays 33-cent stamps.
