Numbers & Computation
Know and be able to use multiplication facts through "12s."
Use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve practical problems with whole numbers.
Patterns & Algebra
Explain patterns in the number system, such as numbers that can be divided by 9, using concrete materials, like paper and pencil or calculators.
Solve simple equations such as 7 + X = 16 in a variety of ways.
Geometry & Spatial Relationships
Draw and classify angles, triangles and circles and their parts, such as diameter.
Draw geometric figures, including intersecting, perpendicular and parallel lines, angles and planes.
Other
Organize data into tables or line plots. Use the results to explain conclusions.
Find the three kind of averages -- mean, median and mode.
Count money and figure change due.
English/Language Arts
Reading
Use dictionaries and glossaries to determine the meaning of unknown words.
Understand figurative language, such as metaphors or similes.
Read and follow multistep directions.
Writing
Write informative papers with clear topics, appropriate details and examples.
Write well-organized communications for specific purposes, such as a business letter.
Use punctuation and capitalization and correctly spell frequently used words.

Develop a physical model to explain how something works or how something is built.
Describe how a simple system works, such as the way water flows through an aquarium.
Make quantitative estimates of familiar lengths, weights and time intervals and check them by measurements.
