Groundbreaking held for youth center

Reno-based T.L. Miller Construction Co. is expected to finish construction of the Western Nevada Regional Youth Center within six months.
The 22-bed facility will be operated by five counties: Carson City, Lyon, Douglas, Storey and Churchill.
Silver Springs was chosen as the site because of its central location. Among other things, the facility will offer drug testing and counseling.
The 1997 Legislature approved $1.2 million for the project.
"It offers kids a chance to turn their life around," said Assembly Speaker Joe Dini, D-Yerington, who attended the ground-breaking. "If we can turn kids around at that level, the whole state benefits."
