Letter: Killing of 'Critter' unfair

Critter was a pure white raccoon who was bought at a pet store in Alabama. He was only three weeks old. Before he could travel on the airplane, he had to have shots and a veterinary certificate. It wasn't long before Critter was going to work with me every day.

For more than a year, two beady eyes studied the people in the cars next to me at the lights. I had to stop taking him to work with me, as everyone wanted to play with him instead of working.

Critter's life was snuffed out for no reason in November when someone complained of a barking dog, and the North Las Vegas Animal Control, learning that he was asleep in his little house, immediately took the dangerous beast into custody.

He was "put down" the same day without giving us a chance to show shot records or a veterinary certificate. We were told that we could move him out of North Las Vegas. I would have had I been given the chance.

I am a resident of Lincoln County but maintain a trailer in North Las Vegas. I've honorably served in the military, a mission for my church and raised 10 children. I consider myself a responsible adult.

My question is: Where does living at its best begin? It sure isn't North Las Vegas.
