NCAA members appeal to national office to protest election

Some chapter members have written to the national office denouncing the election and requesting a new one.

Gene Collins, who won the presidency, and state Sen. Joe Neal, who was elected first vice president, say they plan to stay and work to restore the chapter's prominence.

Several officers and executive committee members who won in the Jan. 9 election have dclined to accept their posts.

Alfred Wiggs, newly elected treasurer, said he was disgusted with how the election was conducted and would not work with Collins, a former state assemblyman.

Collins received 137 votes to defeat his opponent, the Rev. Jesse Scott, who got 115 votes.
