Southern Nevada governments have varied agendas

Henderson and Boulder City have approved no bill draft requests.

North Las Vegas has a lengthy agenda, but no major issues.

North Las Vegas is asking for a change in the way municipalities annex islands of county land within a city's boundary. Currently, those within an area targeted for annexation can block the effort by mobilizing their neighbors in sufficient numbers.

North Las Vegas wants to remove that recourse in cases where the local government already is providing services comparable to those it delivers to other areas.

If the bill passes, it would apply to all cities that house such islands of county land within their boundaries.

The North Las Vegas City Council is also seeking a change in the city charter that would have the city attorney appointed by and responsible to the council instead of the city manager.

Also this session, North Las Vegas is seeking $6 million for construction of a new library.

Government entities in the southern part of the state will be monitoring the Legislature's reaction to the formation of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition.

The authority was approved by the governments of Clark County, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City.
