Brief: Phone training center planned

Sprint employees from Nevada and the West Coast will be trained in fiber-optic splicing and installation of the integrated on-demand network the company is gearing to roll out later this year.

Six state-of-the-art classrooms will be built on half of the third floor of the building at 7201 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The 12,000-square-foot facility is due to open Feb. 5, a Sprint spokeswoman said.

Sprint, which eventually plans to have five instructors at the school, presently offers classes in smaller facilities at the company's Valley View Boulevard headquarters. The Las Vegas center will be one of nine extension campuses from a main training facility in Kansas City, Mo.
