Excitement in triplicate for Metro officers

A pair of Metro bike officers got more than the usual excitement on their downtown shift Tuesday morning.

Officers Gary Fetterman and Rod Hodson found a woman leaning on a car in the west alley of 120 N. 14th St. at about 9 a.m.

"We were cruising the area and we saw her and asked her what was going on," Fetterman said. "She said that she was five months pregnant with triplets and that she was having a false labor."

The officers called for paramedics, even though the woman said she was fine.

"She was holding a bottle of grape juice, and as the contractions got stronger she squeezed it and grape juice shot everywhere," Fetterman said.

Las Vegas Fire Department paramedics Brian Miller and Joe Andovandi arrived, and the woman bent over and started screaming that she was going to have her babies, Fetterman said.

"Her water broke right there, and I went with one of the paramedics to get some supplies from the truck," Fetterman said. "We came back and my partner was holding a baby and then another one came out."

The officers and the paramedics got the woman and her twins safely into the ambulance and on their way to the hospital.

"From when we stopped to see if she was OK to the end it only took about two minutes," Fetterman said. "We had never seen anything like it. It was amazing."
