Man severely burned in apartment fire

Police said the 27-year-old man, whose name was not released, was taken to the University Medical Center burn unit for treatment of burns on his head, arms and legs.
Firefighters were called shortly after 6 a.m. to the apartment, where they found heavy flames coming out the window. The man was found sitting in the front lawn.
The fire destroyed the living room and kitchen of the apartment, with damage estimated at $25,000.
Firefighters said the man had a number of exotic pets in his apartment and at least two snakes died during the fire.
