Gunmen wound two in truck

Metro Police this morning had yet to catch the gunmen responsible for wounding two people in a pickup Sunday evening.

Diners at the Pizza Hut at the corner of Sahara Avenue and Richfield Boulevard had were startled when one of the victims entered the restaurant about 4:45 p.m., bleeding from a bullet wound in his chest.

Police believe the victims and the suspects are gang members.

"There were two individuals in the pickup heading northbound on Richfield," Lt. Jeff Carlson said. "It looks like another car, also headed north, pulled up next to the pickup, and both sides started talking and throwing gang signs. Several shots were fired from the car into the pickup."

The driver was shot in the chest and his passenger was hit in the arm, Carlson said. The driver ran into the Pizza Hut, where employees called 911. The man who was shot in the arm ran to his house, which was just a few blocks away.

Both victims were taken to University Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries and released.
