Letter: Clinton, Gore initiatives would help LV Valley

Money for open space and parks. Community school planning. Clean air. Mass transit. Congestion mitigation. Farmland protection. Land acquisition for endangered species. Four areas across the nation are specifically targeted for the Land Legacy, and our Mojave Desert is one of the four.

Every single one of the issues strikes right to the heart of life here in the Las Vegas Valley. We should be out dancing in the streets. The Sierra Club, to which I belong, is one of many environmental groups that is out celebrating. Of course, Congress still has to approve these initiatives. The presidential packages have suggested funding sources that seem realistic and practical.

It's time to write to our representatives and ask them to approve and fund these two initiatives. Hello Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan. Hello Reps. Shelley Berkley and Jim Gibbons. We've got some good stuff here for you to work on.
