Letter: Falwell's remark irresponsible

As Sanford Cloud Jr., president and chief executive officer of the National Conference for Community and Justice, observed, "To those who practice Christianity, the anti-Christ is a sinister figure to be overcome by the true God, Jesus Christ.

"Jerry Falwell's blatant assertion that the anti-Christ must be a Jewish male, probably living today, is dangerous -- even though the Rev. Falwell states that this was not his intent," Cloud continued. "The statement subliminally supports fear, stereotyping and, in some cases, bias toward Jewish men. As such, it is detrimental to intergroup relations and to the principles of respect and understanding fostered today by interfaith voices."

We in the Southern Nevada Region of NCCJ agree and call on all members of our community to stand tall against the implications of Falwell's statement and to reaffirm their commitment to building a just and inclusive community for all our neighbors.
