Man pleads guilty to second-degree murder in death of his son

Timothy Taylor entered the plea last week as part of a plea bargain. He had been awaiting a Feb. 8 trial after earlier pleading innocent to first-degree murder in the case.

Taylor faces either life in prison or 25 years in prison when he's sentenced March 1 in Lyon District Court. Both sentences would allow possible parole after 10 years.

"A murder charge is a murder charge," Lyon County District Attorney Robert Estes told the Mason Valley News. "There was the death of a child, and there is a price to pay.

"It's a good plea for everyone involved. Either way, he'll serve 10 years."

Taylor's 7-week-old son, Cameron, died on or about last Aug. 12 after suffering injuries at his father's home in Weed Heights.

Taylor told authorities that he was intoxicated when he fell, perhaps more than once, while holding the infant.
