New mother accused of ditching baby

A 20-year-old Las Vegas woman accused of ditching her baby on a bathroom shelf after giving birth in a hot tub has been slapped with a felony child-endangerment charge.

Teri Miller was booked into Clark County Detention Center on Monday shortly after Metro Police arrested her at Family Court. If convicted, authorities said she could be facing a minimum of two years in prison.

Metro Lt. Tom Monahan said Miller has given investigators contradictory statements about why she didn't tell anyone about the birth. The lieutenant declined to elaborate because the details are crucial to the case and are intended to come out at trial, if the case progresses that far.

Miller is believed to have been in the hot tub sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. Saturday when she went into labor and delivered the infant. She didn't tell anyone or call for help, Monahan said, and instead went back to her apartment at 2051 N. Torrey Pines Drive, near Lake Mead Boulevard.

"She was hemorrhaging quite a bit," Monahan said, adding that at some point the woman's boyfriend called paramedics because of the profuse bleeding.

The infant was in fair condition today at University Medical Center.
