Carl Baumgardner, 62, of Las Vegas died Dec. 14 in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Ohio. A resident for many years, he was retired.

Verdia Mae Burkes, 67, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Newellton, La. A resident for 37 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Ike; two sons, Leroy Ike Burkes Jr. and Clark David Burkes, and one daughter, Marjorie Burkes, all of Las Vegas; her mother, Mary Jackson of Newellton; six brothers, Thedore Jackson of St. Joseph, La., Henery Jackson, James Jackson, Edward Jackson and Terrance Jackson, all of Newellton, and Alex Jackson of Las Vegas; four sisters, Lillie Jackson, Carolyn Smith and Linda Jackson, all of Newellton, and Gloria Dubois of Choudrant, La.; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 2-8 p.m. Wednesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be noon Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services. Burial will be in Newellton.
John Harry Burkhardt
John Harry Burkhardt, 74, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born April 3, 1924, in Correy, Pa. A resident for 14 years, he was a New York telephone employee, a retired member of Buffalo, N.Y., Union 210, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Kenneth Burkhart, and one daughter, Karen Federlin, both of Las Vegas; one brother, William Burkhardt, and one sister, Lila Towner, both of Buffalo; and one grandchild.

Jess Lee Cariker, 94, of Henderson died Sunday in a local care center. He was born March 16, 1904, in Clayton, Texas. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired peace officer and a member of Waxahachie Lodge 90 AF&AM in Waxahachie, Texas.
He is survived by three sons, Thomas Cariker of Henderson, John Cariker of Las Vegas and Jess Lee Cariker Jr. of Texas; one daughter, Janice Anderson of Georgia; and two brothers, Joe Cariker and John Cariker, both of Texas.
Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Mary E. "Minnie" Cooper, 86, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. A resident for nine years, she was born Oct. 27, 1912, in New Castle, Pa.
She is survived by one son, Richard Cooper of Las Vegas; and three great-grandchildren.

Jean Frey DeMatoff, 83, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. She was born March 10, 1915, in Chicago. A resident for more than seven years, she was a retired clerk for a publication.
She is survived by one daughter, Leslie Hickey of North Las Vegas.

Richard Frederick Demeuse, 46, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 22, 1952, in Wisconsin. A resident for more than three years, he was a freelance writer.
He is survived by his parents, Elizabeth and Joe Demeuse, and one brother, Bob Demeuse, all of Wisconsin.

Pamela A. Dressner, 53, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. She was born Feb. 8, 1945, in Childress, Texas. A resident for 10 years, she was a hotel food server.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons, Michael Dressner and Philip Dressner, both of Miami; two sisters, Sandy Rospigliosi of Tuncannock, Pa., and Julie Parks of North Carolina; and one grandchild.

Isaac Glover, 36, of North Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born July 9, 1962, in Louisiana. A resident for 23 years, he was a car wash detailer.
He is survived by his father, Sam Holmans of Las Vegas; three sisters, Elli May Holmans of Las Vegas, Anna Alexander of North Las Vegas and Peggy Williams of Louisiana; and four brothers, Michael Glover and Jesse Glover, both of Las Vegas, John Lewis Smith of Louisiana and and Tambin Holmans of Texas.

Charles E. Harp
Charles E. Harp, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Oklahoma City. A resident for 42 years, he was a retired manager of administration for a national laboratory, a World War II Army veteran who served in the 65th Infantry, part of Patton's 3rd Army, was a past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge 1468, served as president of the 65th Infantry Division Association 1993-94, served as a national judge advocate of the Combat Infantrymen's Association, served as the representative to Congress of the Nevada Veteran's Association and was a 1949 graduate of the University of Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Laura Royer, Debra Harp and Liesa Harp, and one son, David E. Harp, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Luther J. Harp of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday in All Saints Episcopal Church, 4201 W. Washington Ave. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

James Ernest Harris, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Bandera, Texas. A resident for 49 years, he was an interstate truck driver and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Humphries Wilcox and Betty Dungey, both of Las Vegas, and Peggy Ruesch of Henderson; four sisters, Eva Jeanetta Preston of San Jose, Calif., and Doris Wonch, Dian Pierce and Lana Dumont, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Larry Harris of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elvira M. Janack, 78, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born July 6, 1920, in Taos County, N.M. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker and a member of Senior Friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Lucetta Williams and Bonnie Arellano, both of South San Francisco, Evone Hoefler of Gunnison, Colo., and Diane Ortega of Las Vegas; three sons, Daniel Williams of Saratoga, Calif., Arthur Williams of San Francisco and Harold Janack of Las Vegas; one brother, Porfilio Barela of Pueblo, Colo.; three sisters, Mary Romero and Teresa Barela, both of Penasco, N.M., and Fay Guerreo of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Joyce Karchem, 75, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. She was born June 12, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for nine years, she was a retired director of student activities of a religious organization and a lifetime member of Hadassah.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; two sons, Stephen Candee of Eugene, Ore., and Alan Candee of West Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, June Michner of Fresno, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Cathy Brice of Las Vegas and Kimm Plumlee and Robin Jones, both of Henderson; and five grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Helen L.; one daughter, Cathy Naugle of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; three sons, Enrique Ramirez Jr., Louis L. Fry and David E. Fry, all of Las Vegas; five daughters, Feliza Hernandez and Denise Fry, both of Las Vegas, Cindy Garcia and Iris Stoner, both of California, and Mary Garcia of Idaho; and 18 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Deronda Milisits of Henderson and Erina Savage of Las Vegas; two sons, Gregory Thomas and David Thomas, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Mary Ann Morang of Boulder City; and seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; one son, Ward Travis of Las Vegas; three daughters, Julie Durk of Henderson, Jan Kington of Yermo, Calif., and Lynn Easton of Kingman, Ariz.; his father, Joseph R. He is survived by two sons, Alan A. Yuzwa of Brecksville, Ohio, and Preston D. Yuzwa of Macedonia, Ohio; one daughter, Jane Michelle Schillero of Seven Hills, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
