Commissioners say "reasonable person standard" is too vague

The commission has been plagued by ethics issues, including controversy over the awarding of concessions contracts at McCarran International Airport.

The task force said Tuesday that commissioners should adhere to a "reasonable person standard" when deciding whether they're too close to someone to vote on an issue.

But commissioners say such a standard is too ambiguous, and that reasonable people disagree on things all the time.

Task force chairman Larry Spitler said the standard means evaluating a situation "based on someone outside the situation looking at it."
