Plans unveiled for creation of Jewish Community Campus

The Greenspun Family Foundation, in association with American Nevada Corp., donated 7 1/2 acres to the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas Tuesday for the development of a Jewish Community Campus.

The site, located in Henderson on the east side of Pecos Road and south of Paseo Verde Parkway, will eventually house a home for the elderly, community center, family service agency offices, the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas offices, a Holocaust library and media center, and the B'nai B'rith office.

"Philanthropy and Jewish philanthropy have been central to my family's life for the last 50 years," Sun Vice President Danny Greenspun, a director of the family foundation said. "This will create an atmosphere where young and old people can spend time together."

The campus will start out with 60 housing units for independent and assisted living. The community center will host entertainment and special interest events available to all ages.

The campus had been the lifelong dream of the late Harry Goldberg, a driving force in the Jewish community and the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.

"I think this is wonderful, when there are so many people involved to accomplish this," Alice Goldberg, sister of the late Hank Greenspun, the Sun's founder, said of her husband's dream. "I get so many people in Sun City (Summerlin) asking me all the time when this would happen. Now it is."

The federation also plans to build a second campus on 11.4 acres in Summerlin on Park Run Drive, west of Town Center Drive. It will feature the same facilities as the Henderson complex.
