UNLV golf lands Swedish star

SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Alexander Strandberg, the youngest member of Sweden's national team, has verbally committed to attend UNLV on a golf scholarship in the fall.

Strandberg said he chose UNLV over Arizona State because of UNLV's athletic and academic reputation as well as the golf facilities available to the Rebels' players.

"The opportunity to improve your skills both as a golf player and academically, I don't know if it can get any better than (UNLV)," Strandberg said from his home in Vanersborg, Sweden. "I really wanted to come there and after I had done my visit, I confirmed all the information that I got earlier that it is a really great college."
