UNLV Senate postpones vote on multicultural requirement

UNLV's Faculty Senate yesterday postponed voting on a proposal that would add multicultural studies requirements to its undergraduate core curriculum. It was the second time the senate had postponed voting on the measure. It initially addressed the issue in December.

The proposal would add a three-credit multicultural studies course requirement to the schedules of all undergraduates. The idea has drawn criticism from some faculty members, who see it as catering to a trend toward political correctness. However, the proposal has support from UNLV President Carol Harter.

Additionally, the proposal would add requirements for an international studies course and a senior-level university colloquium course.
