Brief: Hilton to leave KC market without fine

The plan calls for Trump to buy the Hilton riverboat facility, which cost Hilton $100 million, for $15 million, the Star said. The sale, contingent on licensing of the Trump organization, is expected to close by summer.

As part of the deal, Hilton will also give up its gaming license, which was threatened by a gaming commission probe into a bribery scandal. Commission chief Mel Fisher told the Star he was prepared to recommend "harsh disciplinary action" against Hilton when the sale was announced.

The regulatory agency was investigating a $250,000 grant former Hilton executives had awarded in 1993 to K.C. Perspectives, a private group headed by former Kansas City Port Authority Chairman Elbert Anderson, allegedly in exchange for his political support for the casino.

One former Hilton executive was indicted last month on three perjury charges related to the case. Last summer, Hilton agreed to pay the federal government a fine of more than $500,000 to avoid a criminal trial.
