Injured bull rider recovering in Reno

Chad Castillo, of Tucson, Ariz., remained in the intensive care unit at Washoe Medical Center on Thursday, four days after he lost his balance and hit his head on a bull's horns while coming out of the chute.

Castillo was knocked unconscious and was twice stomped by the bull before the animal could be distracted.

The incident occurred on the last day of the rodeo, which concluded Sunday.

Castillo's parents, Frank and Pinkie Scott, issued a statement through the hospital saying their son's injuries were confined to his face.

The teen-ager had reconstructive surgery Tuesday night to repair a broken nose and jaw. Doctors also removed bone fragments from his jaw.

Castillo is an elementary education student at Howard Junior College in Big Springs, Texas.
