Las Vegas' new International Basketball League franchise will be known as the Silver Bandits.
That name was chosen from more than 400 entries submitted by fans as part of a contest that began June 17, when formation of the team was announced at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Several fans suggested "Silver Bandits" but only one -- Las Vegas attorney Joseph Fong -- was selected as the grand prize contest winner. He will receive two round-trip tickets to the away game of his choice, two season tickets for the inaugural season, an autographed team jersey and a party for 20 at a Silver Bandits home game.
"The response from the community was overwhelming and we had a lot of exciting names to choose from," acting club president Harry Stokes said. "We wanted a name with a Western flair that was also a perfect representation of the exciting style of basketball our team will offer this community."
The Silver Bandits will tip-off their inaugural season in the fledgling eight-team pro league in November at the Thomas & Mack Center.
