Red Rock Canyon offers education programs and ways to stay in shape

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes, walks and other educational programs throughout the year.

Among the coming programs are:

Lions of the LaMadre: A 2-mile hike Saturday to learn about the area's mountain lions and other wildlife, their problems, behavior and how they survive.

Icebox Canyon: Try this 2 1/2-mile hike Saturday to learn about the geology and natural history of the canyon.

Pine Creek Ponderosa: On this 2-mile walk Sunday watch for birds and learn where the water creatures go when the streams dry up in summer.

People, Plants and Petroglyphs: A 2-mile moderate trip Monday will follow ancient footsteps in the canyon. Bring water.

Rodents of Red Rock: A 3-mile trip Monday to learn about the mysteries of the little mammals in Oak Creek Canyon.
