Residents lose electricity following a transformer explosion at power plant

The transformer, located at the Steamboat Springs Geothermal Plant about two miles outside of the city, exploded about 11 p.m. A plant spokesman said emergency crews were quickly dispatched to re-route power to customers.

Power was expected to be restored by early morning, the spokesman said.

No one was injured in the explosion, said an official from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
