The condition of the 18-year-old Tucson, Ariz., man was upgraded Friday from serious but stable to satisfactory at Washoe Medical Center.
Castillo was admitted to the hospital Sunday in critical condition after he was injured during the championship round of the rodeo.
Castillo, who's ranked seventh in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings for bull riding, was riding a bull named Trick or Treat when he was thrown off balance and struck by one of its horns.
He then was stomped twice by the bull before it could be distracted.
He suffered head injuries and underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a broken jaw and nose.
