Council delays action on marine engines

On Thursday, the council was set to adopt a "trigger" ordinance that would prohibit watercraft powered with most types of two-stroke engines if drinking water standards were violated at Donner Lake this summer.

But the council delayed action on the plan, saying it wants to see the outcome of a Tuesday meeting between the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and California Department of Boating and Waterways.

The meeting will focus on a California proposal to enact regulations mirroring TRPA's new two-stroke engine ban at Lake Tahoe.

Truckee officials will wait to see if the state assumes a leadership role in regulations affecting Donner Lake.

"If that can be worked out with Boating and Waterways, maybe that's the best way to go," town counsel Dennis Crabb said. "The town may or may not need to be in the business."
