Editorial: Jarvis' departure is bad news for Nevada

When Chancellor Richard Jarvis resigned Thursday from the University and Community College System of Nevada to become the founding chancellor of the United States Open University, an extension of an online institution based in the United Kingdom, it was Nevada's loss and the U.K.'s gain.

Jarvis left his mark in five years, improving our universities and community colleges. Unfortunately he got caught in the cross fire of a regional, fair-share funding squabble by the Board of Regents. The callous treatment of Jarvis by some regents will make it difficult to find a successor with his credentials who is willing to put up with the board's antics.
