Cow and calf storm through Stagecoach

The cow and her calf, possibly looking for a drink or a cool spot out of the sun, ran into a property owner on Monday who quickly became about as cranky as the cow.

The cow charged an elderly woman in the community on U.S. 50 between Dayton and Silver Springs, sending her to the hospital with a broken shoulder.

Another onlooker cleared a five-foot fence to escape the cow.

Three Nevada brand inspectors managed to get the cow and calf on a trailer and back out into the range and helped repair the fence that apparently was cut by vandals.

Stagecoach resident Denise Howard says it may be open range, but the rancher needs to see what his cattle are doing.

Residents told KOLO-TV they didn't move to the wide open spaces to be held hostage by wild cows who send relatives to the hospital. And they said that open range or no open range, somebody's going to pay for the damage.
