Concert set Saturday for children

Lied Discovery Children's Museum will host a children's concert with African-American music and folklore, featuring Janice Allen at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Water skiing sessions scheduled at Lake Mead

An adaptive water skiing program will be offered Sunday and July 24 at Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Center, 3333 W. Washington Ave.

Cost is $20 for a full day of instructional water-skiing and jet-skiing at Lake Mead, with lunch included. Call 229-6358.

Also Project D.I.R.T. activities are being offered at the Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Center. "Developing Interest in Risk Taking" provides people of all abilities the opportunity to explore alternative recreation and outdoor/adventure experience. Call 229-2296.

Workshop will focus on planning programs

A practical workshop on planning, developing and implementing a volunteer program will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the United Way of Southern Nevada, 1660 E. Flamingo Road.

The instructor is Barbara Grostick, volunteer coordinator for Clark County Social Services. Cost of the UNLV-sponsored event is $90. Call 895-3394 to register.

Volunteers needed for library program

The Computer Assisted Literacy in Libraries program is looking for volunteers to teach adults to read.

Seniors can take a variety of classes

Senior Advantage is offering a hypertension class from 1-2 p.m. Friday and a Summertime Cooking Demonstration from 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, both will be held at the Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, 2075 E. Flamingo Road. Call 369-7911.

Senior Advantage is also offering a class on Various Ways To Stop Smoking from 2-3 p.m. Monday and a Senior Theater Group will be from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the Valley Hospital Medical Center, 620 Shadow Lane. Call 388-4665.

A 55 Alive Driver's Course is being offered 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday by the Senior Advantage Resource Center, 9310 Sun City Blvd., Suite 101. Free blood pressure screenings also are offered 9-10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

The Professional Black Women's Alliance

will present its 14th annual "Rose Awards" beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Alexis Park Resort, 375 E. Harmon Ave. Cost is $25 for ages 16 and older and $15 for 15 and younger. Call 631-0000.
