Obituaries for July 8, 1999

Elliott Jay Coopersmith, 61, of Las Vegas died June 18 in Las Vegas. A resident for 24 years, he was born Dec. 15, 1937, in New York.

He is survived by one niece, Stacy Rotzol of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were scheduled at noon today in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Pilar Castro David

Pilar Castro David, 86, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Manila, Philippines. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Norma Hermogino, Amelia Acevedo and Gloria King, all of Henderson; three sons, Robert King, Arcenio King and Arthur King, and one sister, Eufemia Delloson, all of Manila; 27 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Friday with a 6 p.m. rosary in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Luis Dome

Luis Dome, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Fontana, Calif. He was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Cuba. A resident for several years, he was a brick mason.

He is survived by one son, Eugenio Gonzalez, and two daughters, Ginger Gonzalez and Milagros Smith, all of Fontana; and four granddaughters.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Grover C. Edmondson

Grover C. Edmondson, 76, of Boulder City died Friday in Los Angeles. He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Grandview, Ark. A resident for 34 years, he was a retired communications technician for the Bureau of Reclamation, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and Bombadiers Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters, Mary Dawn Wammack and Laurie Ann Edmondson Adams, both of Boulder City; one son, Grover Cleveland "G.C." Edmondson of Reno; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be noon Friday in Boulder City Municipal Cemetery.

Roswell M. Fox Jr.

Roswell M. Fox Jr., 63, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Seattle. A resident for 28 years, he was a communications technician for AT&T.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one son, Kerry Fox of Sparks; two daughters, Alane Kitchen of Las Vegas and Ruthie Fox of Henderson; one brother, Frank T. Fox of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Viking Street LDS Chapel. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Michael D. Guinn

Michael D. Guinn, 54, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. He was born Jan. 25, 1945, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. A resident for 39 years, he was a truck driver for the Teamsters, a Vietnam War Army veteran and attended Western High School.

He is survived by four sisters, Sandra G. Nye and Frances Guinn, both of Las Vegas, and Yvonne Elizondo and Marsha D. Robinson, both of Ventura, Calif.

Graveside services were scheduled at 8 a.m. today in Palm Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., handled arrangements.

Trinidad Hilario

Trinidad Hilario, 83, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born May 12, 1916, in the Philippines. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired storekeeper.

She is survived by one daughter, Julia Bansil, and two sons, Victor Hilario and Pastor Hilario, all of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday with a 4 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Roger Hans Johnsen

Roger Hans Johnsen, 50, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born April 11, 1949, in Seattle. A resident for 23 years, he was a mason.

He is survived by his significant companion, Lucretia Pearson of Nevada; one son, Jason Joy; one daughter, Glori Joy; one stepdaughter, Rhiannon Rhoades; his mother, Gloria Blevens, and one sister, Suzy Berg, both of California; and one brother.

Valley Memorial Crematory, 745 W. Sunset Road, No. 16, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Barbara A. MacRae

Barbara A. MacRae, 61, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born May 5, 1938, in Somerville, Mass. A resident for 17 years, she was an accountant for Polaroid.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her stepfather, George Silva, and one brother, Ed Harnish, both of Boston.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in American Burial and Cremation Services.

John Edward Nixon

John Edward Nixon, 66, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born June 1, 1933, in Walla Walla, Wash. A resident for 25 years, he was a professor emeritus at UNLV in computer science for 19 years and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Robert M. Nixon, and one daughter, Patricia E. Nixon, both of Las Vegas; and one granddaughter.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Alvin Bernard 'Al/Buzz' Nygaard

Alvin Bernard 'Al/Buzz' Nygaard, 52, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Utah. He was born Aug. 6, 1946, in National City, Calif. A resident for 45 years, he was a journeyman cabinetmaker for Vegas Laminates and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his parents, Clarence and Frances Nygaard of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Anne Vanderhelm of Monrovia, Calif., and Lorraine Blake and Judith Smith, both of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Lawrence Anthony Ovian

Lawrence Anthony Ovian, 71, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Whitinsville, Mass. A resident for four years, he was a retired administrator and World War II Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; two sons, Larry Ovian of Henderson and Lee Ovian of Sudbury, Mass.; two sisters, Mary Ovian of Whitinsville and Arazie Zacarian of Longmeadow, Mass.; one brother, Karney Ovian of Henderson; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 S. El Camino Road.

Mary C. Perez

Mary C. Perez, 87, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local health care center. She was born April 9, 1912, in Rockdale, Texas. A resident for nine years, she was a retired nanny.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Marter of Las Vegas and Dolores Tharp of San Antonio; one brother, Bill Torres of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. services Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive.

Sandra M. Reece

Sandra M. Reece, 41, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born July 6, 1957, in California. A resident for 10 years, she was a computer operator for Southern Wine and Spirits.

She is survived by one son, Jalmar Reece-Zeno, her mother, Emma Furman, her father, James Reece, and three sisters, Sharon Davis, Shirley Reece and Sheila Reece, all of Las Vegas; and her grandmother, Gertrude Reece of Galt, Calif.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Unity Baptist Church. A private burial will follow.

Perry Roach

Perry Roach, 70, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. He was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Colliers, W.Va. A resident for three years, he was a retired steel worker from Weirton Steel, a Korean War Army veteran, past chaplain of the American Legion and a member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Michael A. Roach of Henderson; three brothers, Robert Roach of Clearwater, Fla., Richard Roach of Follansbee, W.Va., and Edward Roach of Weirton, W.Va.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4490 Mountain Vista St. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Ida Mae Robinson

Ida Mae Robinson, 94, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born Feb. 25, 1905, in Tallulah, La. A resident for 57 years, she was a retired hotel restroom attendant.

She is survived by two daughters, Fannie Mae Harris of Fontana, Calif., and Melgee Harris of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Zion United Methodist Church, 2108 N. Revere St., North Las Vegas. Graveside services will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Hilda Romero

Hilda Romero, 57, of North Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1941, in El Paso, Texas. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Garcia; four sons, Peter Romero of Victorville, Calif., Paul Romero of Alice, Texas, Jamie Romero of Woodbridge, Va., and Ismael Romero of North Las Vegas; four sisters, Esther Cisneros and Josie Chacon, both of El Paso, Irene McCullhan of Las Cruces, N.M., and Engie Sanez of Falfurrias, Texas; one brother, Tony Ornelas of Houston; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 1 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., followed by burial in Palm Memorial Park.

Naidene Georgia Sheldon

Naidene Georgia Sheldon, 83, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Michigan. A resident for six years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, William G. Sheldon of Henderson and Mike Sheldon of Atlanta; and one daughter, Marilyn Hummel of Chicago.

No local services are scheduled. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

David A. Tyner

David A. Tyner, 53, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 3, 1946, in Atlanta. A resident for five years, he was a marble finisher.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; one son, Tony Tyner of Mableton, Ga.; one sister, Juanita Beasley of Erwin, Tenn.; one brother, Wiley Tyner of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Clayton P. Wheeler

Clayton P. Wheeler, 25, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born April 15, 1974, in New Orleans. A resident for one year, he was a custodian.

He is survived by his father, Orville D. Wheeler Jr. of Lima, Ohio; and his grandmother, Anna Marie Orville of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

William Wilhite

William Wilhite, 59, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 2, 1940, in Madera, Calif. A resident for 47 years, he was a steel worker, a Navy veteran and a member of the Steel Workers Union in Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Stacie; one daughter, Shae Marie Wilhite, and one son, William Justin Wilhite, all of Las Vegas.
