Court dismisses lawyer’s appeal in contempt case

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the appeal of Las Vegas lawyer Peter L. Flangas, who was found in contempt and fined $500 for missing a court hearing in Reno.

The court rejected Flangas' argument that his failure to appear in court Dec. 1, 1998, should be excused as a mere oversight.

Flangas, after missing the Dec. 1 court appearance on a criminal case, was ordered to appear Dec. 17 to show cause why he should not be cited for contempt.

He also failed to appear for that hearing. Former District Judge Margaret Springgate held a hearing Dec. 23 and found Flangas in contempt of court.

Flangas was not sanctioned for missing the Dec. 17 hearing.
