Bible elected chairman of Ethics Commission

Commission members charged with reviewing allegations of misconduct by public officials elected Bible chairman on Friday.

Bible, who began serving a term on the ethics panel almost immediately after stepping down from 27 years in state government last year, said his main task will be to get new commission staff hired and ready to work by Oct. 1.

The Legislature beefed up funding and staffing for the panel, approving for the first time an executive director and private legal counsel for the commission. Notices of the new staff positions for the commission will be advertised in the next few days, Bible said.

The panel will also expand from six members to eight as a result of ethics legislation sought by Gov. Kenny Guinn to speed up the resolution of ethics questions.

Bible takes over the chairmanship from Reno attorney Mary Boetsch, who stepped down from the commission on June 30.
