Letter: Horse plan is all a ploy

You know the tired old story: First get roads built, then some services for the public, followed by necessary utilities and comfort stations. After a practical period of time has elapsed the introduction of a motel, houses, condominiums or even worse, a hotel-casino.

They call 10 years temporary relocation. They say no developers. They also say no guarantee of either. Those horses and burros have been there for ages and have survived quite well. If there is any danger to the animals, vegetation or ecosystem it is the mismanagement by the BLM of the facilities and the animals that they are charged by the federal government to protect.

I say keep Red Rock as it has always been, a pristine natural and beautiful area for everyone to enjoy. Don't disfigure that beautiful canyon with paved roads. Don't remove a few horses and burros and replace them with commercial stables and perhaps more than 100 horses and riders. Don't lay the groundwork for future scarring of the land and development by big corporations.

People, speak out! Remember the attempt to bring commercial mining in the canyon a few years ago? The Bureau of Land Management cannot be trusted. Please write to the BLM and your elected officials in Washington. Insist that the Red Rock Conservation Area remain as it is: unchanged.
