Letter: Economy's good, but our military isn't

The May issue of Reader's Digest has an article under the title of "Can We Fight the Next War?" If you are between the ages of 18 and 35 or you are a politician, I suggest you read this article. It tells the reader just what kind of shape our country is in when it comes to another war.

To the best of my recollection we are in worse shape now than we were at the start of World War II. At that time we were supplying England with implements of war. Today we don't produce enough to keep our present services supplied with parts. Every time you read about new equipment it well be ready in five years. Don't you think our enemies know that.

I'll be 81 years old May 2 and I know what I've seen and lived through. In heaven's name, somebody do something.
