Road project to delay motorists

Plans call for the resurfacing of a five-mile section of the highway from its junction with Highway 89 to the Nevada line. The project is expected to last until July 4 at the latest.

Drivers can expect 15-minute delays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in work areas. Work will begin at noon on Mondays and end at noon on Fridays.

"This work should basically buy us a new roadway for supposedly five years - that doesn't mean it won't need patching," said Dick Powers, executive director of the South Shore Transportation Management Association.

Caltrans officials pledged extra efforts to keep residents and business owners informed about the project.
