TRPA endorses plans to survey residents

The U.S. Postal Service wants to conduct the survey so it can develop a new master plan for the Tahoe Basin.

The Postal Service delivers mail to houses in South Lake Tahoe and surrounding residential areas in El Dorado County.

Limited delivery takes place in Incline Village, Nev., but other Tahoe residents must get their mail from a post office box.

TRPA has pushed for home mail delivery throughout the Tahoe Basin as a way to cut back on air pollution caused by cars.

"We need to determine public desire for carrier service," said Rebecca Bernard, manager of post office operations in Reno, Nev.

"We are proposing doing a survey, and we want to do that in conjunction with TRPA to make sure we're asking the right questions."
