42 guns stolen during burglary are recovered

Metro Police on Wednesday returned 42 of 50 weapons taken in an April 13 burglary of the Active Sports store, 2264 S. Nellis Blvd.

"They changed hands within the methamphetamine trade," Detective Michael King said.

The guns were recovered at five different locations over the past three weeks.

After the guns were taken in an overnight burglary, they were sold or given to people involved in the production of methamphetamine, King said.

"Henderson police broke the case," King said.

The first break came the day after a burglary when a patrol officer responded to a routine call concerning a fight. One of the suspects tried to run.

"When he was caught, he had one of the guns on him taken in the burglary," King said.

Another 18 of the weapons were found in the suspect's car.

A few days later, Metro Police Northeast Area Command served search warrants on two suspected methamphetamine labs and recovered several more of the stolen weapons.

After questioning suspects at the lab, King said 20 more guns were recovered.

"They were not as scattered out as they could have been," he said. "They were all sold and traded for meth. It was all within the meth trade."
