Credit card cash advances outlawed

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Gov. Tom Vilsack says he'll accept controversial new regulations that ban credit card cash advances at casinos and make it more difficult for casinos to add slot machines and other games.

The Des Moines Register reported Vilsack had considered overruling the new regulations from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, but now says he'll let them become law.

"I'm not sure most Iowans think it's a good idea to have the ability to access money on credit cards," Vilsack said, the Register reported.

"Frankly, I'm not sure what the future holds for us," said Jeff Terp, vice president of Las Vegas-based Ameristar Casinos' casino in Council Bluffs.

"I know we will comply with the rules and regulations the state imposes on us, but we are disappointed that these rules were ever enacted," Terp said, the Register reported.

Jack Ketterer, administrator of the Gaming Commission, said commissioners will discuss May 20 how to proceed with enforcement of the new rules.
