Elko student arrested

The eighth-grade boy was arrested at his home Tuesday. He was booked into the Northeastern Nevada Juvenile Center on charges of making bomb threats and publishing matter inciting a breach of the peace, authorities said.

Deputies also seized the family computer.

Elko County Sheriff Neil Harris said another middle school student was suspended and additional arrests or disciplinary actions are anticipated.

Harris said an off-duty deputy discovered the threatening e-mail comments Sunday. Apparently, no school computers were used to send the threatening messages, he said.

"Both law enforcement and the school district would like to make it clear that all threats will be taken seriously," Harris said.

"Unfortunately, some students are making verbal and sometimes written threats just to appear to be somebody in the eyes of their peers. While we recognize and understand that the majority of these threats may be just talk, we cannot take a chance of not taking immediate action," Harris said.
