WESTLAKE, La. -- Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. hopes to begin work this fall on a 250-room, $35 million luxury hotel on the west bank of the Calcasieu River.
"This new hotel will be the nicest one you can find between Houston and Biloxi," said Roger Deaton, Isle of Capri general manager.
The nine- to 10-story hotel, next to the Isle's large pavilion and two riverboat casinos, should be completed late next year, he said. It will contain suites, meeting rooms, a restaurant, a day-care center, an arcade, a health club and upscale pool area, he said.
The casinos' $9 million, 241-room motel has been nearly full since it opened in 1997, Deaton said.
It is part of a $210 million expansion program for Mississippi and Louisiana announced last week by Isle of Capri.
Isle of Capri owns dockside casinos in Biloxi and Vicksburg, Miss.; two riverboats in Lake Charles, La., and another riverboat casino in Bossier City, La. It also has a land casino in Black Hawk, Colo.
