Fifteen families in Las Vegas have applied for permission to bring relatives from Kosovo to Southern Nevada.
Redda Mehari, director of the migration and refugee services for Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, said many of the 15 families here have been granted asylum or are in the midst of asylum proceedings.
An estimated 20,000 Kosovo refugees are being brought to the United States as the war rages on in their native land.
Mehari said it is impossible to determine at this point how many of the refugees might end up in Las Vegas.
"This is strictly family reunification," he said.
