Candidate who loses by two votes wants recount

Ron Long says he spoke too soon in saying the day after the election that he would not challenge the results of the primary.

Long, 39, a partner in a landscaping business, said it might have been the emotion of the moment that caused him to initially decide not to go forward.

"We've changed our minds," he said.

Long said factoring into his most recent decision was the submission of about 800 mail-in ballots, "which leaves it open for a chance at discrepancy."

He said the cost of a recount would be about $2,000. Marcia Blake, who beat out Long out for the fourth spot on the ballot with 1,137 votes to Long's 1,135, said previously she wouldn't blame Long if he challenged the results.

As it stands, Blake, North Las Vegas Planning Commissioner Shari Buck and incumbent council members William Robinson and Paula Brown will be on the June 8 ballot vying for two seats.
