Prieto rips homer in Stars' win

CALGARY -- Las Vegas Stars pitchers yielded 15 hits to the Calgary Cannons on Thursday afternoon at Burns Stadium.

Fortunately for Mike Ramsey's squad, only two of those hits came back to haunt the Stars.

Chris Prieto hit his third home run of the season and shortstop Rico Rossy highlighted a three-run second inning with an RBI double as the Stars (12-15) won their second straight road game, 4-2.

Lefty Heath Murray (3-1) picked up the win despite allowing nine hits and two walks in just five innings. Murray was filling in for right-hander Brian Tollberg, who was scratched from his scheduled start because of soreness in his right forearm.

Calgary's only runs came on an RBI single by Danny Bautista in the third inning and on a solo home run by Kevin Millar in the seventh.

Will Cunnane pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his second save. Cunnane has not allowed a run his last 15 innings on the mound.

The series continues tonight with right-hander Jose Mercedes starting for the Stars against right-hander Reid Cornelius.

* STARS NOTES: Outfielder Mike Darr, sidelined for the past two weeks with a pulled rib cage muscle, is expected to be activated before tonight's game, which means at least one Stars' player will be reassigned. ... Calgary (10-14) stranded at least one man on base in each of the first eight innings and left the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
