Community relations director resigns

McCann, hired in July 1997 to organize the city's first Community Relations Department, said he's leaving May 19 to pursue a master's degree in public administration.

City Manager Charles McNeely said he does not yet know who will take over the $70,000-a-year post.

"I think Terry was instrumental in getting the public relations department up and running," McNeely said. "He has done a great job."

McNeely said the department has built ties with neighborhood advisory boards and has helped develop programs to acquaint residents with city government.
